This Privacy Policy explains how CargoGenix, Inc. ("CargoGenix," "we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, shares, and protects information about you when you use the CargoGenix platform (the "Platform"). It also explains your rights and choices.

1. Information We Collect

You provide directly:

• Account details: name, email, phone, user type (shipper or carrier), company name and address.
• Carrier verification: business documents, licenses, insurance certificates, and tax identifiers.
• Shipment details: origin/destination, cargo description, weight, dimensions, declared value, photos, special handling notes.
• Communications: messages and documents you exchange through the Platform.
• Payment information: processed by Stripe; we receive only tokenized references and the last four digits of cards, not full card numbers.

Collected automatically:

• Device and browser data (user agent, IP address).
• Usage data (pages viewed, actions taken, timestamps).
• Cookies and similar technologies (see "Cookies" below).

2. How We Use Information

• To operate and improve the Platform, including matching shippers with carriers.
• To process payments, escrow, and payouts.
• To verify carrier identity and qualifications.
• To detect fraud, abuse, and attempts to circumvent the Platform's fees or anti-leakage measures, which may include automated scanning of message content.
• To send transactional emails (account, shipment, payment, dispute notices).
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.

3. Sharing With Third Parties

We share information only with:

• Counterparties on a shipment: shippers and carriers see each other's relevant details after a bid is accepted, in order to complete the shipment.
• Service providers: Stripe (payments, payouts, identity), SendGrid or similar (transactional email), Heroku (hosting), AWS S3 (file storage), Sentry (error monitoring), and PostHog (product analytics — only loaded after you accept the cookie banner). These providers handle data only on our instructions.
• Legal & safety: law enforcement, regulators, or other parties when required by law or to protect rights, property, or safety.
• Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.

We do not sell your personal information.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in, remember preferences, measure usage, and protect against fraud. You can control cookies through your browser; disabling them may affect functionality. By continuing to use the Platform after dismissing the cookie banner, you consent to our use of cookies as described here.

5. Data Retention

We retain account and shipment data for as long as your account is active and as needed to comply with legal, tax, accounting, and dispute-resolution obligations. Backups may persist for additional time. You may request deletion as described below; some data may be retained where we have a continuing legal basis (e.g., regulatory recordkeeping for completed shipments and payments).

6. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, port, or delete your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to withdraw consent. California, EU, and UK residents may have additional rights under applicable law (CCPA/CPRA, GDPR, UK GDPR), including the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

7. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards (TLS in transit, encryption at rest where applicable, access controls, third-party PCI-DSS-compliant payment processing). No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. International Transfers

We are based in the United States, and your information may be processed in the U.S. or other countries that may not have the same data-protection laws as your jurisdiction. By using the Platform, you consent to such transfers.

9. Children's Privacy

The Platform is not intended for users under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe we have collected information from a child, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. Material changes will be announced via email or in-app notice; the "Last updated" date above will reflect the latest revision.
